Nokia Lumia 1020 review

Lumia 1020 PhoneSplurt review image

The coldest time of the year surprised PhoneSplurt with the possibility to try out the Lumia 1020. This monster of a camera with a phone slapped on it is a big hunk of a machine.
The screen is 4.5 inches in size and the back still bulges like with the previous monster camera phone 808. The phone is heavy and fills a pocket nicely. One-handed operation can be difficult at times because of the width of the device.

The operating system is Windows Phone 8, just updated with features like folders and double tap gesture to unlock screen. Still, the marketplace isn't exactly bustling with interesting software. PhoneSplurt tried the new Angry Birds racing game and it managed to heat up the device, making the game eventually crash. Whether this was because of the hardware heating or the game being buggy, we don't know.

The picture quality is of course amazing when you get the settings just right. There's a lot to tinker with, however using touch screen for all these adjustments is just off. Precision can be ruled out for people with big fingers. The battery life is good, lasting throughout the day without a problem when surfing the web and watching video.

Verdict: This phone has the hardware but the operating system is making it not too desirable. Windows Phone still gets one alienated a bit too much.

PHONESPLURT RATING: 3/5
